Credit Unions of Wales Awards 2020: Payroll Partner (Private).

The third Credit Unions of Wales Awards will take place on Friday 2 October 2020.

The awards celebrate the payroll partners, volunteers, members and schools whose exceptional work within the credit union movement has a positive impact on communities across Wales.

The Payroll Partner (Private) category recognises those employers who are committed to the payroll partnership scheme.

This allows the workforce to access a host of financial services including payroll saving and workplace loan schemes.

The award is presented the payroll partner in the private sector that recognises the importance of the financial wellbeing of its workforce by encouraging them to become credit union members.

The nominations for this award are:

Legal and General
Nominated Cardiff & Vale Credit Union, Legal & General has played a longstanding and pro-active role in promoting payroll schemes to other employers.

Their staff have a combined £4,900 in savings with the credit union, and since the scheme was introduced, £29,360 in affordable loans have been issued.  The scheme is part of a wider wellbeing package to staff.

Legal and General encourage other employers to demonstrate corporate responsibility by adopting a payroll scheme. 


Thorncliffe Building Supplies 
Nominated by Cambrian Credit Union, Thorncliffe Building Supplies Ltd take the financial health of their staff seriously by promoting payroll saving and workplace loans.

Cambrian Credit Union staff visit Thorncliffe Building Supplies Ltd’s branches at Dyserth, Ewloe, Abergele and Bodelwyddan to hold advice surgeries with staff and explain the many benefits of their saving schemes and affordable loans. 


We Fight Any Claim
Nominated by Gateway Credit Union, We Fight Any Claim is based in Cwmbran.

Rhian Head, HR Business Partner at We Fight Any Claim realised the benefits of payroll partnership for the mostly millennial workforce, and was introduced to Gateway Credit Union.

After a couple of planning meetings they launched the payroll partnership in May 2018.

Thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of Rhian and her staff and the WFAC communications team 20 members in signed up in the first week, and had to return with more membership packs.

Several members of staff have also applied for loans, for cars, holidays or to re-organise their finances. 


Shoda Sauces
Nominated by Smart Money Cymru Credit Union, Shoda Sauces in Blaina provide the payroll deduction service for their employees.

They have always worked extremely well with Smart Money Cymru, actively encouraging and promoting the savings and loans schemes to their staff. 

They provide information packs to staff in the break rooms, and managers are proactive in providing information and joining support to teams.
